Best Fun Restaurants In Scottsdale With Healthy And Allergy Friendly Food

Researching possible restaurant options for trips can take a lot of time when you have to filter through all of the suggestions that are so often clearly not healthy or allergy friendly. And if you have multiple allergies you know how frustrating it can be to try and find places that fit not just one, but all of your needs.

That’s why we did the research and created this list to help. Thankfully Scottsdale makes it pretty easy so you’ll be sure to find some great options for your next trip to this desert city!

1. Tocaya Modern Mexican

Our favorite and one of the best fun and healthy restaurants in Scottsdale, Tocaya offers delicious, health conscious, and fresh food for the traditional Mexican cuisine (what they call “Modern Mexican”). With its roots in California, Tocaya has multiple locations in both Southern California and Arizona.

In addition to offering options for Gluten Free (with a dedicated space), Dairy Free, Soy Free, Nut Free, Peanut Free, Vegan and Vegetarian, Tocaya uses high quality ingredients that never contain hormones, steroids, or antibiotics.

They have options ranging from salads and tacos to soups and quesadillas, but one of our favorites is the gluten free and dairy free burrito! Their restaurants are stylishly designed and they have happy hour Monday through Friday as well as Taco Tuesdays.

2. Buffalo Chip Saloon And Steakhouse

The Buffalo Chip Saloon and Steakhouse is located a little north of Scottsdale in the Wild West town of Cave Creek. With a menu full of BBQ food, this is one of the best fun restaurants in the Scottsdale area because of the live music, dancing lessons and bull riding.

Every Wednesday and Friday night you can visit the saloon for bull riding. Tickets are purchased for $10 cash at the gate which opens at 6:00 pm but parking is usually a little packed so going early would be a good idea.

One of the best and most fun restaurants in Scottsdale you can visit is the Buffalo Chip Saloon to watch bull riding and they even have some allergy friendly options.

3. Barrio Queen

Barrio Queen is a beautifully decorated Dia de los Muertos style Mexican restaurant with a few locations in both Scottsdale and Phoenix. They have a good amount of allergy friendly options and even use a dedicated fryer for gluten free items.

If you love margaritas and tequila, they have very tasty hand crafted drinks made with real ingredients like Fresh Lime Juice rather than some store bought margarita mix. It is fun and one of the cutest restaurants in Scottsdale that you shouldn’t miss on your next visit.

One of the most fun and lively restaurants in the Scottsdale and Phoenix areas is definitely Barrio Queen with its beautiful and colorful decorations.

4. El Encanto

El Encanto is another one of the best restaurants up in the western town of Cave Creek (north of Scottsdale) that we loved going to as kids because of the fun environment with a pond full of ducks and geese right in the middle of the restaurant.

Their Mexican food is quite tasty and they even have some allergy friendly options on the menu. If you call ahead and make a reservation, be sure to ask for a table by the window (looking out over the pond) or outside by the pond.

5. Flo’s

Flo’s is one of the best places to get Chinese food in Scottsdale and the constantly packed restaurant full of customers would agree. Especially during the winter months it gets pretty busy at dinner time, but you can visit during lunch time for less crowds and lunch prices.

Some of their most popular dishes include Spring Rolls, Sizzling Rice Soup, Kung Pow Chicken, Broccoli and Chicken, Teriyaki Bowl, and Sweet and Sour Chicken.

But my favorite will always be the soy free (also gluten and dairy free) Fried Rice, which we haven’t been able to find anywhere else.

The best fried rice that happens to be gluten, dairy and soy free can be found at Flo's in North Scottsdale.

6. Pizzafarro’s

Pizzafarro’s was always one of our favorite pizza restaurants as kids partly because of the pizza, but mainly for the fun drive north of Scottsdale to Carefree where the giant boulders made us feel like we were in Bedrock with the Flintstones.

We used to call it “the Flintstones restaurant” and were always so excited when we got to go out there. Their menu also has more than just pizza and they even have some allergy friendly options.

As a kid the drive north of Scottsdale up to one of the best pizza restaurants was always so much fun because it felt like we were in Bedrock with the Flintstones.

They generally have a fairly decent wait pretty much everyday of the week (especially during winter), but you can check yelp or open table to join the waitlist before you arrive.

Does Scottsdale Have Good Food?

If you’re wondering whether Scottsdale has good food, the answer is definitely YES! My family and I lived in Scottsdale for many years so maybe I just didn’t think too much about it at the time, but after moving away I realized I never really appreciated the food in Scottsdale.

Not only are there loads of options to choose from, there is a good variety of international cuisines and lots of healthy fresh options. You won’t have any trouble filling your Scottsdale itinerary with these fun restaurants.

What Food Is Scottsdale Arizona Known For?

Being so close to both Mexico and California, the food in Scottsdale is heavily influenced by these two cuisines. Not every restaurant has south of the border options, but there are tons of Mexican restaurants around, many that put a fresh and sometimes organic twist on these delicious dishes.

One of our favorite healthy fresh Mexican restaurants in Scottsdale is the fun and beautifully decorated Tocaya Modern Mexican.

Which Is The Best Mexican Restaurant In Scottsdale?

Scottsdale is full of tasty (and unhealthy) Mexican Restaurants but luckily there are still a few good healthy options. From our list, the best Mexican Restaurants in Scottsdale are:

🇲🇽 El Encanto

🇲🇽 Barrio Queen

🇲🇽 Tocaya Modern Market

🇲🇽 The Herb Box (Enchiladas, Green Chili, Bowls, Tacos)

🇲🇽 Urban Beans (Quesadillas & Burritos)

🇲🇽 Verdura (some items)

What Are The Best Restaurants In Old Town Scottsdale?

Old Town is one of the more popular areas to stay in Scottsdale because there are lots of shops and restaurants around and nearby activities like hiking Camelback Mountain or visiting the McCormick Ranch area. The best fun, healthy and allergy friendly restaurants in Old Town Scottsdale are:

🌵 Farm and Craft

🌵 Tocaya Modern Mexican

🌵 Pita Jungle

🌵 Barrio Queen

🌵 The Herb Box

🌵 Modern Market

The views of Scottsdale and Phoenix from the top of the Camelback hike are incredible.

Where Are The Best Restaurants In Scottsdale With A View?

Although Arizona tends to be brown in color, there are still some spectacular views of beautiful mountains and colorful sunsets. Below are some of the best restaurants in Scottsdale, Arizona with a view:

🏜 Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse (Located just below McCormick Ranch Golf Club with great second story patio views)

Why & How To Eat Healthy While Traveling

Why would you want to eat healthy while traveling? Some people tend to take breaks from healthy eating (cheat week) while on vacation and although we too enjoy a cheat meal once in a while, we think healthy eating should be crave-able, tasty and available anywhere you go.

We shouldn’t have to sacrifice a healthy lifestyle in order to travel. We can continue being kind to our bodies and see the world!

Eat Healthy, Stay Active, Travel The World.

This does require a bit more research and planning but it is so much better when you feel good and are full of energy. To make things easier, we’ve compiled lists of healthy and allergy friendly food everywhere we go and will continue to do so everywhere we go.

You can find more restaurant lists in most of our posts on our Travel Destinations page, or you can find a compiled list of all destinations on our Restaurants Around The World post.

In addition to eating healthy, we also like to stay active and keep our bodies moving while we travel. Check our Things To Do In Scottsdale post to find these types of activities (and more) for your trip to Scottsdale, or head up to the Grand Canyon for more outdoor fun!

When Is The Best Time To Visit Scottsdale?

Summer and Early Fall are generally the times you want to avoid in Arizona unless you really want to visit for cheaper rates. Winter and Spring are the most popular (and expensive) times to visit Scottsdale because of the pleasant weather.

If you’re not traveling for a specific event, Late Fall may be the best time to visit for possibly cooler weather (temperature averages can range from 40 degrees to the high 80’s) and cheaper rates.

Does it snow in Scottsdale?

It is quite rare, but it can occasionally snow in Scottsdale. If this happens, typically the snow only sticks to the tops of the mountains or it may stick to the ground a little further north in areas like Cave Creek.

If you visit during winter, the coldest months are usually December and January. Average temperatures are anywhere from the 30s to the 60s and you should definitely bring a jacket for early mornings or late afternoons after the sun goes down.

An unusually snowy day in Scottsdale, Arizona.
